Replace your old faucets with Water Sense faucets when you are ready for new fixtures.
All the Facts:
If you’ve already read the toilet section, then you know replacing some plumbing fixtures can have a big impact. Faucets do not have as big an affect on your overall water usage so I recommend only replacing faucets at the end of their life cycle. When that happens, there are some things you should know. First, replace your fixtures with Water Sense fixtures. Standard fixtures have water flows of 2.2 gallons per minute. Water Sense fixtures max out at 1.5 gallons per minute. That may not sound like a lot, but for a full family that reduction amounts to the same amount of water used in 40 showers annually. Additionally, some of that water is hot water, meaning you will also save energy that would have been used to heat those 40 showers.
There are thousands of faucets that are water sense certified, and modern aerators have been refined to the point that even though you are using less water, you still feel happy with the flow volumes. There is no reason not to upgrade the next time you switch out a faucet.
